A Thuistí, a Cháirde,
Tá sé deacair a chreidiúnt go bhfuil an Nollaig buailte linn!! Bhí téarma an-ghnóthach agus an-difriúil againn!!
It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. As you are very much aware, we have had a very different sort of term, with lots of changes required to keep everyone safe during this most challenging of times.
The first thing that I would like to do is to praise the children, they have faced and overcome all of the various changes that they met and have adapted superbly to our ‘new normal’.
Our staff have worked tirelessly, under difficult circumstances, to ensure that their classrooms are safe and that the children can safely learn and play together every day.
We came back to school on 1st September and welcomed 20 Naíonáin Bheaga to our school – we currently have 204 children on rolls. Enrolment for 2021/22 will take place during ‘Enrolment Fortnight’ from January 24th to February 8th.
In September we welcomed Orla Slyman onto our staff for the year. Orla is currently studying in Mary Immaculate College and is completing a full year’s placement with us. She is working as classroom assistants throughout the school.
Our Christmas celebrations are very different this year also. Our Christmas Sale-of-Work – Díolachán na Nollag – will not be taking place, nor will there be the opportunity for us to stage a carol service or class shows for parents. We do hope to put a video montage together which will include the children working, playing, singing and laughing together.
On Thursday we plan to have a Christmas Jumper Day and a ‘Kilometre Walk’ in aid of St. Vincent de Paul – we would like to ask all children to wear their Christmas jumpers and to bring in €2 for St. Vincent de Paul on the day. Weather permitting each class will run/walk a Kilometre as part of this fundraising effort. Thanks in advance for supporting this worthy cause.
Crannchur na Nollag – Our School Hamper Raffle will take place on Monday 21/12/20 at 10 a.m. We hope to stream the raffle live via webinar, please join us at the following link https://zoom.us/j/99457139180 . Thanks to everyone who has donated goodies for the raffle! Please remember to buy your tickets online at the following address https://www.tickettailor.com/events/gaelscoil/460264 . As this is likely to be our only fundraiser of the year, please be generous and encourage family and friends to support us also. Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the purchase of equipment/plants/furniture for our new school garden. A lot of work has been carried out recently to prepare our school field, a hard surface area and our school garden. We hope to be planting grass and potatoes by St. Patrick’s Day!!!
Parent/Teacher Meetings will take place in the last week of January.
The school will close for our Christmas Holidays on Tuesday 22/12/20 @ 12 noon.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and New Year. A sincere thanks for all the support over the past number of months – it has all been very much appreciated. It’s been wonderful to see how happy the children have been to be back in school together!!
Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir,
Ruairí.
